Judging Giraffe Always Looks Down
ONE: Tell us a bit about how the band got started and the history behind it.
We started because our old member Dan Lee (now member is Illinois post-rock outfit Enta) was bored and posted something on Facebook about wanting to start a band. Nelson, Teddy, and myself all replied and then we were a happy family for about 5 months till Dan wanted to leave due to artistic differences. After a couple months of panicking we picked up the pieces and carried on. Then we went on tour a couple times and turned our merch man Ryan (who was a horrible merch guy but a great guitarist) into the 4th member of out band to even everything out and to add pieces that we couldn’t do as a 3 piece.
TWO: How is the music scene in Champaign?
The scene in Champaign, Il is solid, close knit and welcoming to other bands. The only downside is that it’s pretty small so a lot of bands share members which is good and bad. Great because everyone gets to work on different genres of music and bad because everyone is already in 100 different band that idea get spread thin amongst them.
THREE: What’s your favorite kind of pizza?
Darwin – sausage and bacon with extra cheese
Ryan – margarita pizza no cheese
Teddy – deep dish vegan veggie
Nelson – pesto
