3 QUESTIONS
ONE: Have you seen any good surfing films lately?
Ray Raposa: I have! I watch the ASP [Association of Surfing Professionals] contests on YouTube pretty faithfully when they’re on season. So, between that and having surf dreams every four or five nights…
MB: Do you surf?
Ray: I haven’t in about four or five years now. When I moved out to New York, I had to forsake it a little bit, and then when I moved out to Portland, I had to forsake it even more.
TWO: How do you feel about the current state of the music business and your place in it?
Ray: Well, I think it’s going pretty poor for everyone, isn’t it? But…
MB: What do you think is next? Any opinions on the future?
Ray: Oh, Lord no, I don’t have, uh… Twilight soundtracks? Those seem to be going really well for people. [Laughs] I was telling friends outside that I woke up one morning, I’m sure after a couple of beers or something, and I had written next to my bed ‘Get on Twilight soundtrack.’ I didn’t take the steps to follow through on that one.
THREE: What is your favorite metal album of all time?
Ray: That’s a tough one. I grew up going to grindcore shows and powerviolence stuff, the West Coast things… bands like Man Is The Bastard, Crossed Out, and Spazz and things like that… Converge – Jane Doe, which is pretty… no, that’s not the answer. Man, Reign in Blood. You can’t mess with thrash. That’s just classic.
